Fishing Line Spooler and Remover
Foreword
The Fishing Line Spooler and Remover is a compact, clamp-on tool designed to make respooling reels easier and more consistent. It is made primarily from reinforced plastic and metal parts, with an adjustable tension system similar to professional line winding stations.
Unlike winding by hand, this tool keeps the line under even pressure—reducing line twist and improving reel performance.
Key Features

- Adjustable tension system: Simple mechanism with a screw/knob to control spool resistance.
- Rotating reel holder: Suitable for efficiently winding both spinning and baitcasting reels.
- Solid build: Plastic and metal parts ensure stable and long-lasting operation.
- Compact: Takes up little space when assembled.

My Experience
For beginners, putting new line on a reel can be confusing and tedious. There are many videos and tricks online, but I personally found most methods inconvenient or inconsistent. It gets even harder if you want to change the line on a reel or add backing to high-capacity spools.
I started looking for a more convenient solution and found that many tools in local stores are expensive. Some cheap options from AliExpress were also unsatisfactory: they lacked a rotating axle or their tension systems deformed the spool during use.
Eventually, I chose this model—and it does everything I need.
The tool is easy to use. Clamp the body to a table, attach the spool axle and fix it with the included screw and screwdriver, adjust the tension knob, and start winding. The reel should be on your rod, and the line should pass through the first guide. Hold the rod at about a 45° angle for light tension—do not overtighten.
At first, I noticed the tension was uneven. After disassembling, I found the spring was rubbing metal-on-metal; after greasing the spring, the tool worked much more smoothly.
Unwinding is also easy—the 3.5x gear ratio provides enough speed.
Note: For spinning reels, the line should come off the bottom of the supply spool, since spinning reels wind line counterclockwise.
