Handing Elite M1 Lightweight Spinning Reel Preview

Foreword

I was looking for a new set – a lightweight bolognese rod and a suitable reel for it. For the rod, I chose the Trabucco Hydrus, 4 meters and only 165 grams. To match it, I wanted a reel around size 2000 and about 200 grams, lightweight and affordable.

After checking several reviews online, I settled on the Handing M1 Elite. The price was good, it weighs about 210 grams, and matches the rod colors perfectly.

I ordered it from AliExpress.

Key Features

  • Slow oscillation system: Better and more even line lay.
  • 4kg avans (drag) (6kg for 3000/4000 size)
  • Graphite body: Lightweight and strong
  • Gear ratio: 5.2:1
  • CNC aluminum handle: Can be mounted left or right
  • Screw-in handle
  • 9+1 stainless steel bearings with anti-corrosion protection

My Experience

The box arrived in excellent condition, and the reel looked premium at first glance. On paper, it has features found in much more expensive reels.

Right out of the box, I noticed there were no shims for adjusting the line lay – something often missing in budget models. I assumed it was set up well from the factory.

I mounted the handle and checked for play between it and the body – unfortunately, there is a slight play, as well as in the handle knob.

The reel spins smoothly, the bearings are noticeable, and the drag is smooth with a pleasant click sound. The line roller mechanism clicks only when closing and requires a slight motion to engage.

I mounted it on the rod and started spooling 0.16mm monofilament line to check the lay.

Initially, the line lay was slightly cone-shaped, stacked at the top of the spool. If you don’t have spare shims, you can’t correct this, as none are included in the box.

150 meters of 0.16mm line wasn’t enough to fill the spool, so I had to unwind and add a shim. After this correction, the line lay became even.

The reel balances perfectly with the rod and overall, I’m happy with the choice.

Since I’m picky, I’ll probably try to remove the play in the handle and body and share the results in a separate article.

Pros and Cons

👍 Pros

  • Very lightweight
  • 9+1 bearings
  • Smooth and reliable drag
  • Nice feel and modern design
  • Pleasant drag clicker sound
  • Smooth and even retrieval
  • Affordable price

👎 Cons

  • No shims included
  • Slight play in the handle knob

  • Uneven line lay without shims

Verdict

Handing M1 Elite receives high marks from reviewers. However, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of shims in the box and the presence of play in the body and handle knob. I plan to address these issues in a separate article, as I believe the reel has great potential.
